our day

Routine

I believe routine is important for a child to feel secure in their environment. In the morning the children are generally having breakfast, followed by free play and some singing. For those on a full day or after school we have many and varied activities. I have books, toys, equipment, resources and theme-based activities to stimulate development in all age groups. We also visit toddler/play groups. Some parents like their school age children to complete homework, whilst also giving the children some time to just relax after a long day at school. If time and weather permits, a trip to the local playground or other places like to the park, may also take place after school.

I will try to vary the activities so that the children will have the opportunity to explore many new and different things, whilst also giving them time to learn to play with others and by themselves. In addition, I will ask children to help setting and clearing the table at mealtimes and tidy up after activities. Hopefully this will teach them that to have fun you also have certain chores that need to be done.

0utings

I have a fully insured 5 seater car so we often go out to mums and tots, soft play, childminder pop ins and days out. So we are not just at home all day.

In the summer, children must be supplied with hats and sun cream. They will travel in my car, with age appropriate safety restraints and will wear wrist bands with my details inside in case of emergency.

I will always speak to the children before an outing about road safety and talking to strangers. I encourage children to hold hands and walk nicely together whilst out.

Health & Safety

Health

I will encourage children to learn about personal hygiene through a daily routine.

We are a non smoking household.

I will only administer medication or treatment to children if it has been discussed with the parents and prior written consent has been given. This will then be recorded in a book with parent's signature acknowledging the entry.

I have smoke alarms on all floors, a first aid box, fire extinguisher and fire blanket.

I have a policy on the exclusion of sick children who are ill or infectious and a procedure of contacting parents if the child becomes ill whilst in my care.

Safety

I have taken every step to ensure that hazards to children on the premises are minimised. I have an accident book for incidents to be recorded and signed by the parents.

The premises are secure both inside and out. Children will be under my direct supervision at all times.

I have a full drivers licence and appropriate insurance/MOT certificates (all of which can be seen).Parents have to sign a consent form to allow me to transport the children in my car.

I have public liability insurance up to £5 million covered by NMCA and have fully comprehensive business use car insurance.
